“Accountability Partnering” & how it can help you stay focused!

Hi everybody, hope all is well. I know we are in uncertain times and in un-chartered territory presently. I got thinking over the weekend how Coaching could help people to essentially get through the next couple of weeks and maintain a certain level of productivity and focus throughout your working week.
Because you may well be someone who is working-from-home for the first time in quite a while and not used to it and you are trying to acclimatise to everything. It can be difficult to maintain the same level of productivity and focus that you would normally be able to achieve in the office.
So since setting up ‘Progress Coaching’ in January, one of the offerings that has been very popular has been the concept of ‘Accountability Partnering’.
In these testing times, it may not need to be a Coach who is that ‘Accountability Partner’, it could be a work colleague and he/she may find themselves in the same situation as you and they may need someone to hold them to account, to keep them focused on a daily basis or a weekly basis perhaps.
It could work simply like this – you have a call with that person in the morning and you tell them these are the tasks you need to complete that day and vice versa they tell you the same.
Then you set a check-in call at the end of the day and you feel ‘Accountable’ to them – you said you would get X,Y & Z completed and you only completed X & Y. This person needs to hold you to account and ask why you don’t have these tasks completed?
They also need to be prepared to give you real, honest, objective feedback – it will only work if they are prepared to do that.
So you trust them to that degree but at the same time you are not too familiar with them to ask them to give you that feedback in the first instance.
I think the concept can work well. It can be hard to feel empowered to get work done and complete tasks especially when you are not used to working-from-home for instance.
So, the concept of the ‘Accountability Partner’, someone you feel the need to ‘show-up’ to each day on a daily basis to get tasks done where you need to stand over your days work can work well for people.
It’s a useful tool to ensure a productive working week. Equally ‘Progress Coaching’ can help you if you don’t have a work colleague who you feel could perform that role for you.
It’s killian@progresscoaching.ie – so there’s one way that Coaching and the concept of ‘Accountability Partnering’ can help you get through the next couple of weeks.
We’ll talk again over the next couple of days about different aspects of Coaching and how they can help you to maintain your focus and ensure that you maximise the working time at home over the next while.
Hopefully that was of some benefit to you folks, take care, talk soon and have a good evening!
